What if my au pair visa is refused?

A refusal is not the end. In practice, most au pairs apply again with a stronger file.

What a refusal means in practice

The mission has decided on this application. Your file is closed, the fee is not refunded, and the travel date you planned with your family moves.

It says nothing about you as a person. It says that, on the papers in front of it, the mission was not convinced. That is something a second application can change.

The most common reasons

  • Doubt about whether you will return home after the programme.
  • Doubt about the purpose of the stay: whether this is really an au pair exchange.
  • Incomplete documents, for example a missing A1 certificate or gaps in the contract.

What you can do better next time

  • Read the stated reason and answer exactly that reason, not a general one.
  • Show your anchor at home in documents: studies, work, family duties, plans after the year.
  • Make the contract consistent: hours, pocket money, insurance, language course.
  • Complete the papers before the appointment, not during it.
  • Write your motivation in your own words, matching what the contract says.

A new application is possible

You may apply again at any time. In practice this is the usual route. It means a new appointment, a new fee of 75 euro and often a new start date with your family.

It only helps if the reason for the refusal has really been dealt with. Sending the same file again usually ends the same way.

We go through it with you

Send us a copy of the refusal through the platform. We go through the file with you, name what was missing, and prepare the next application together with your host family.

For legal steps, please contact a lawyer specialised in migration law.

What we do not promise

We do not promise a visa, and no honest agency can. The mission decides at its own discretion. What we can do is make sure your file is complete, consistent and honest.

Common questions

Is a new application allowed after a refusal?

Yes, at any time. It only helps if the reason for the refusal has actually been dealt with.

Does a refusal cost me anything with aupairo?

No. As an au pair you pay us nothing at any point. The embassy fee of 75 euro is not refunded by the mission.

How soon can I apply again?

As soon as your file is genuinely stronger. In most countries the appointment date decides how fast that is.
